P T E R Y G I U MA PTERYGIUM IS AN ABNORMAL, WEDGE-SHAPED THICKENING OF THE CONJUNCTIVA THAT CAN POTENTIALLY GROW INTO THE CORNEA. AT THE LEAST, A PTERYGIUM CAN BECOME RED AND IRRITATED; IN A WORST CASE SCENARIO, IT CAN AFFECT THE SHAPE OF THE CORNEA CAUSING ASTIGMATISM.
